ADS-B
– Does it mean anything to you? It should. People probably don’t realise but Air
Traffic control don’t use radar to track Aircraft flying around the world. The Malaysian Airlines jet may have simply “Disappeared” because the Hi-jackers
turned off the ADS-B system.
ADS-B
is a system on the Aircraft saying where it is much like your Mobile Phones GPS
tells you where you are on Google Maps. The Plane has a device that uses GPS to
get its position and then “tells” Air traffic control where it is. They then
plot it on their systems along with all the other aircraft and track them to
avoid collisions etc. Up to now the worry has been that without Radar they’d be
open to Hackers setting up “phantom” planes to swamp the system but what if you
wanted to hide? Turn it off.
ADS-B
is mandatory above 29k ft. If they turned it off then Air Traffic control would think they’d crashed. Hence their pleas for all military radar /satellites info
to find out is anyone could actually “see” where the plane had gone – no Radar
out in the pacific or Indian Oceans.
I
wonder where it really went, has it crashed or gone somewhere secluded? Will we
ever know?
