We all need renewable energy so why is the Government still lining Conglomerates pockets?

The Government is wrong to cut the FIT payments (subsidies) to domestic and community Green energy.

Amber Rudd, the energy minister, announced a series of cuts earlier this summer, including a reduction in the guaranteed price paid for electricity generated by new rooftop solar installations by up to 87 per cent. The government has said the existing levels of support are no longer needed as the industry has reached critical mass – and that it must act to protect customers, who ultimately pay for subsidies through green levies paid by suppliers and passed on in energy bills.

If it was a purely subsidies to “green” energy then I could understand it – let them compete on a level playing field with all the other commercial generators, (coal, gas, nuclear etc.) but it’s not.

The new Hinckley point Nuclear PowerStation is getting a vast amount of OUR money in subsidies – remember it’s the Chines that are building it).

The Government is planning to slash generation tariffs for new domestic installations by 83 per cent from the start of next year to 1.63p per kilowatt hour (kWh) — though they will still get an additional 4.85p for every kWh exported to the National Grid.

By cutting this subsidy it will give us all back the vast amount of £6 a YEAR off our energy bills.

The total solar capacity of the UK is now eight gigawatts. However, Government estimates show the proposed cut in the generation tariff could cost the UK six gigawatts of renewable energy in the future.

EDF's £25 billion Hinckley Point C nuclear station will generate 3.2 gigawatts — i.e. half the energy potentially being lost changing the renewable scheme.

But look at what vast subsidies the Government is giving EDF to build this Nuclear Plant. Yes, we need it but surely it would be preferable and fairer to give a smaller subsidy to you and me to be more energy efficient and Greener? Not give enormous sums to these vast multinational conglomerates?
The Government has guaranteed energy giant EDF and its partners will receive at least £92.50 for every mega-watt hour of electricity generated by Hinckley Point C — twice the current market price — and that figure will rise with inflation.
Some estimates suggest total subsidies to the project could cost tax-payers £76 billion — that's £2,870 for every household in the UK.

By comparison commercial solar energy generators get an average £68 per megawatt hour — almost a third less than nuclear. Scaling that down to household proportions the nuclear option receives 9.25p per kWh compared to commercial solar's 6.8p.
If the cuts go ahead, homes with solar would get 4.055p per kW (if they continue to be paid the export tariff for half of the energy they produce).
The Energy Saving Trust has published a review into the cuts for renewable energy. It argues that the residential generation tariff could be set at 5.5p or 6p per kWh — around half the current levels — which, with falling installation costs, would still leave solar looking attractive.
This wouldn't save as much, but it would still knock £3 a year off a household energy bill.

Yes, we need Nuclear or the lights will be dimming,  but surely it would be preferable and fairer to give a smaller subsidy to you and me to be more energy efficient and Greener? Not give enormous sums to these vast multinational conglomerates?

Electric cars are NOT green

This is what I want to see, Hydrogen Cars,  but not pumping Hydrogen in, making electricity from water via solar power!

Surely a "Fuel Cell" that does this can be made?

Crazy - now conventional Electric cars are "rocketing" ! well maybe they would if they ran on ROCKET fuel!
Look  they get £5k from HMG (US!) but they're not cheap, even the lowly "VW i-up" (if were a Yorkshire car it would be the "aye-up" - I digress), is £25k! Who can afford these cars? yep RICH folk so why should they get £5k subsidy for a ridiculous car that only does <100 miles.="">
Crazy. Just Like Wind Turbines - Robin Hood -in-reverse - taking from poor folk (US) and giving to the rich!

Tories Freeze Benefits

SO Mr Os born conspiracy, want to squeeze more out of the poorest to cut the deficit - he should be ashamed.

It was the fat Bankers that caused the problems let them pay. We've baled out the banks - I mean you and me to the tune of £1500 per man, woman and child. Can I have my money back now please, George. At the same time he gives money back to the rich, by cutting the top rate of tax.

Surely the fairest way is to put 1p on income tax and then everyone WORKING pays their fair share until we have recovered.

I do agree that Benefits should have a cap - its not a blank cheque and we can't afford it, but not the poorest to suffer. Also limit their rise to 1% that 's what I've just got after 5 years of no rise. Give the Midwives 1% too.

Again why is VAT at 5% charged on Gas and electricity bills? The poorest (on benefits/pensions) have to pay it or do without Mssrs Cameron and Osborne don't worry about their bills 'cos they're rich. The poorest pay the most relative to their income. If you're going to freeze them (literally) then why not take VAT off the first £1000 of bill?

Lastly yes - if everyone could work and not claim benefits then there wouldn't need to be a freeze on benefits. SO get everyone working Mr Osborne. Hitting them when they're down won't work.

Energy prices up or down?

So now because apparently Wholesale Gas prices have halved this year and the campaign is to get the Energy Companies to cut their prices.

Actually I AM in favour of saving the planet. We need to cut down on energy use, that is the best way until FUSION power is here. It will be decades before we don't need to use Fossil fuels and its those that are contributing to the CO2. Reduce GAS prices we just use more! This is the argument for FRACKING - cheap energy. It just means more CO2 and so more Turbines to offset it!

WASTE OF TIME - cut down!!

Remember that 5% is VAT - good old HMG get more as prices rise!

To me this is unfair on the poorest. Often they are stuck with the highest tariffs so proportionately pay the highest TAX. The rich can shop around and when you're on a big wad Heating bills are insignificant!

Why TAX those on benefits?

I say CUT the VAT on all bills less than £2000 per year and scrap the GREEN levy. Taxing the poor to pay the rich is immoral.

Why all the Windfarms and Solar panels? Its Cos you get DOUBLE your money in subsidies!! HaHa!

Hasn't anyone noticed?

I despair.

It IS A fiasco

Thank you Chancellor for raising the Limit on ISAs to £15k and amalgamating Cash and Stocks & Shares Isas into the allowance, Wonder why he's raised the allowance? Well currying favour with the Grey Vote - too little too late. Savings are the lowest for along time. Why save when your money is losing value all the time, interest rates are pathetic. Tax on very lkittle is very little so he's not losing much at all.

If you wonder why people don't take up ISA's then its because

  1. Interest rates are pathetic Interest on £5k or interest on £15 ? well 3 x 0 = 0
  2. Banks con you - attractive rate for first year then plummets to nothing - do they tell you - well in the small print but hope by next year you've forgaotten
  3. Banks con you - various restirictions - can't move from one ISA to another, no transfers in, penalties for withrawals etc.
  4. Ordinary Peopl e are poor - they need their money to live.
  5. If you've more than£15k put it somewhere else
Bet sCameron and co don't bother!

I could mention similar things about pensions - another day.

This country has been hurt by low interest rates. Saving is the life blood - spend only when you can afford it, borrowing is what got us in this mess. If Osborne upped the savings rates in say National Savings then he'd rake in money which he could use to start the economy moving. That's the way it used to be. If everybody's borroing then where does the money actuyally come from?

Energy Companies "fleecing the poor" - Official

If you read this the Government accepts that they amounted to a tax on some of the poorest in society.

I've argued this before but now it seems MPs are taking it seriously at last.

Meaning that also these million people who also pay 5% VAT and the GREEN tax on their Energy are also being "Fleeced" by the Government. Taxing the Poor so they can give to the Rich - the Energy Companies who put up Windfarms paid for out of these taxes. When will they finally GET IT?

It is disproportionate tax on the  poorest

WindFarm Anger - Andrew Marr show - Ed Davey is WRONG!

Just had the biggest LIE from Ed Davey on the Andrew Marr show.

He said "Windfarms only get paid when they generate electricity".

This is a LIE.

Constraint payments pay them for NOT generating electricity. We pay the greedy windfarm owners even more to NOT generate electricity.

Is this right?

Also because the infrastructure is not there yes they get paid for generating electricity but then it isn't used by the Grid. So what use is that?

Sorry Andrew - get him back and put him right.
