Well done Disney. Wire free charging.

WiFi charging is not new. It was discovered by Tesla, (the 18th century scientist not the electric car company that pinched his name), patented by Faraday over 100 years ago. Advances now make it feasible. I predicted years ago that this principle would be developed into practical technology. Next step, no need for batteries! Power picked up from WiFi.  Electric cars, no cables. Power picked up in the road. In years to come we'll laugh at these silly cables for charging cars for hours.

Electric con trick

electric cars are the future but while our power is mostly  generated by fossil fuel were kidding  ourselves they're green. What we really need is solar power and fuel cell powered cars. The only need water/hydrogen for fuel. Solar power can make hydrogen during daylight supplemented by a dose of hydrogen when needed. The  fuel cells convert it to power giving off water. No pollution.  When we switch to electric what's HMG going to do to fill the blackhole in its fuel duty?

Electric cars are NOT green!

Why do governments promote electric cars, electricity – where does it come from? Power Stations, the majority are not green either.

Cars, electric near the cold arctic circle ought to be more efficient, the colder it is the better for electrical conductivity – no resistance at absolute zero!!

These cables for charging are as passes as landlines for phones, what you want is induction not Cables

The real green fuel is Hydrogen. Fuel  cells. run on hydrogen to produce power not batteries.

Finally at one thought, HMG subsidising electric cars, what’s HMG going to do for revenue when we stop buying fuels and paying the enormous Duties on a  litre?

Cheap oil - be worried?

Isn't it great I filled my car up at the weekend for 99.7p per liter.

Haven't seen it so low since 2009!

But whilst I like it, globally its not good you know.

Why? because the mega-oil companies will be in trouble and we'll not convert to energy-saving CO2 saving technologies. Only good thing is it isn't worth the Oil companies exploring more for oil/gas.

Live now pay later - you say - yes but what bout your Grandchildren?

Do we want the planet to "burn"?

Why buy an electric car at twice the price of a conventional one, why not get a gas guzzler - you can afford it.

Believe me we'll regret it soon, and the prices will rise. So be sensible, have some fun but don't count on it.

Not Electric cars - run them on water!

Toyota has the right idea a fuel cell car powered by Hydrogen. Electric cars - plugging them in is like old phones before Mobiles were invented. Won't catch on, or they can crack the "induction power charging"?

What they need is to be generating the Hydrogen from water - using solar power. Maybe just a top up at home - generate your own hydrogen from solar power all day every day. Fill up when you get home. Or they'll come up with solid Hydrogen, like say "beads"that you don't need a pressurised tank for - much safer.
Who knows?

Why can't Electric cars be Solar powered and run on Water?

I've said it before Electric Cars AREN'T GREEN.

Read up on Carnot's Cycle. Where does most of the electricity come from?

BUT, if they could run on Water? Use solar powered cells to create Hydrogen then use it in Fuel Cells to Generate Electricity - BINGO - clean Solar powered Electric cars.

Electric cars are NOT green

This is what I want to see, Hydrogen Cars,  but not pumping Hydrogen in, making electricity from water via solar power!

Surely a "Fuel Cell" that does this can be made?

Crazy - now conventional Electric cars are "rocketing" ! well maybe they would if they ran on ROCKET fuel!
Look  they get £5k from HMG (US!) but they're not cheap, even the lowly "VW i-up" (if were a Yorkshire car it would be the "aye-up" - I digress), is £25k! Who can afford these cars? yep RICH folk so why should they get £5k subsidy for a ridiculous car that only does <100 miles.="">
Crazy. Just Like Wind Turbines - Robin Hood -in-reverse - taking from poor folk (US) and giving to the rich!

Energy prices up or down?

So now because apparently Wholesale Gas prices have halved this year and the campaign is to get the Energy Companies to cut their prices.

Actually I AM in favour of saving the planet. We need to cut down on energy use, that is the best way until FUSION power is here. It will be decades before we don't need to use Fossil fuels and its those that are contributing to the CO2. Reduce GAS prices we just use more! This is the argument for FRACKING - cheap energy. It just means more CO2 and so more Turbines to offset it!

WASTE OF TIME - cut down!!

Remember that 5% is VAT - good old HMG get more as prices rise!

To me this is unfair on the poorest. Often they are stuck with the highest tariffs so proportionately pay the highest TAX. The rich can shop around and when you're on a big wad Heating bills are insignificant!

Why TAX those on benefits?

I say CUT the VAT on all bills less than £2000 per year and scrap the GREEN levy. Taxing the poor to pay the rich is immoral.

Why all the Windfarms and Solar panels? Its Cos you get DOUBLE your money in subsidies!! HaHa!

Hasn't anyone noticed?

I despair.

Electric Mayhem

SO good idea Boris's Electric Cars, pity that Electric Cars have stalled across the country.

Charging points are so and few between the Electric Car will only be useful for short distance commuters, and those that do venture out afar have to take numerous cables because there is no standard. What we all need is the "Magnetic Induction" charging system.  They use it in Europe and also on Milton Keynes for Electric buses.

Its ridiculous that in this wealthy country we have developed this system. It will be seen as ridiculous in years to come. 2054 "oh and in 2014 they actually had to connect their cars with a cable to charge them, What a ridiculous idea and the Health and safety implications eh! Ha Ha ha!" Just like now when last century we had Gas lamps. The technology can be put under parking bays anywhere or even on the open road. Imagine stopping at the lights and getting charged up! Of course it wouldn't be free but to get a charge you maybe had some sort of metering like using a sat nav.
See this - Last year, South Korea switched on a 12km (7.5-mile) road which can recharge electric vehicles as they drive over it, without the need for vehicles to stop at all. Two public buses are using the Online Electric Vehicle system, or OLEV, in the South Korean city of Gumi.
The technology means the vehicles can be fitted with smaller, lighter batteries, reducing the amount of power required to drive them.
Come on Cameron and Osborne use the Green levy for something really useful, bring us into the 21st Century and eliminate Petrol/Diesel cars!

Truma lets us down

Last night Truma let us down . Heating went off.
Lovely weather but nights cold . Had heating on tickover at 2am cold. This morning on investigation seems most probably the 12v transformer has died. 3 yr old sterling europa  - last van 8 yr old Elddis no problems. Truma Ultraheat problems.

How dare they? Energy companies profit from your money

Have you ever wondered if you could get millions of people to lend you £100 for nowt. Then you'd put it in a building society account and collect the interest? Million in interest.

Well I suppose this is what the energy companies do.

You pay £x a month your bill but when you're in credit and there must be millions in their bank accounts surely they can sit on it an collect millions in interest?

DO we get any "credit" for it - no.

All they do is put their prices up by 10% plus! No one else would get away with it but what can you do, you've got to have electricity and gas? Well you could switch, try Quidco.

Are electric cars green?

Yes I've always wondered about electric cars? £15k cheapest can only go 100miles. Get a new car for £8k and spend £7k on fuel? Hmmmm - know what I'll do.

Considering the state of this country's energy industry better get a horse!

Push electric cars

No not literally - the Government is trying to promote electric vehicles.

Lets face it  - who wants to pay £25k for a little car that only goes less than 100miles before you need to charge it, Where do you charge it?

Who can afford a £25k car?

Buy a £15k car and then you've got £10k to spend on f uel. Even at todays prices that goes a a long way!

At £1.40 a litre and 50mpg that woudl get you 350000 miles. Even at 35000 miles a year that would take you 10years motoring.

So next, I said yesterday the lights will goi off soon so how do you charge your electric car? Whene every home has one, that will drain the grid even more.

Then the Governments daft isdea is charging points every where. Imagine it - Electric bollards all along the streets.

  • Cables going to each car.
  • A Health and Safety nighmare.
  • That's assuming the Vandals don't cut your cable, or worse.
  • Someone may trip over the cable and sue you. Forget its plugged in and drive off.
  • Who's going to lay the cables to the bollards.
  • Who's going to pay for the electricity?

Now lastly in a few years cables to cars will be as old hat as the Landline phone is now. We all have mobiles! Technology exists now to charge cars remotely like WiFi. Yes the cables need laying in the roads, but all you need is top park over it and the car charges. they can even be in the road providing power while you drive. A pilot scheme is running Europe for this already

Usual story Britain is years behind.

Wait and see. Monty told you first.

Osborne to scrap fuel duty rise?

Here we go again - Fuel Duty to rise? - lets face it we all know the oil is running out. We're killing the planet burning it but like any addict we can't stop.

Is the Government wrong  We say "it won't make any difference, I'll keep my car going and my bit won't matter." Well I suppose it does.

Now another thing - suppose we all switch to electric cars, what will the Government do then? All that duty lost. We're not buying any petrol or diesel.

WRONG - they'll make it up. Road tax on electric cars is going to rise, then they'll charge us by the mile to use the roads. Its a WIN WIN for the Government.

Just Grit your teeth and pay, or don't travel, live near your work. It used to be like that, I'm just old enough to remember.

Fuel Duty to rise 50% - (and more)

Well I said it back in March that when we start driveing Electric cars the Government will want money from somewhere to replace the lost billions from Fuel Duty, so an RAC Foundation commissioned report says.

We may think Electric cars are expensive to buy but now the Tanker Drivers have given us a taste of what its like to have NO fuel at any price what is the alternative? After all we need our tin boxes to get around don't we? ANSWER - get one that doesn't need fuel!!

Yes a GREEN Electric car, OK they only go 100 miles before refuelling but at least we have a plug in the Garage and electricity is Cheap! Soon there will be decent cars with built in little motors to charge the batteries and away you go. GREAT!

WRONG - when the Government loses the Billions in revenue from Fuel what can they do?

ROAD TAX, pay by the mile,  you name it they'll be after you.

I said it in March.
