Prisoners Need Books and Educating

Simon Heffer Mail on Sunday 3rd May advocates educating prisoners as poor education is often behind offending. I agree, also banning books is symptomatic of a Totalitarian Society!

However I go further Why don't we educate everyone to a minimum standard ion schools?

Its obviously too late when they've broken the law and ended up in Prison.

I've always said I was educated enough by 11 yrs to function happily in society, why can't that be done for everyone? Kids that are uneducated are the ones that "hang around" kick their heels and get into trouble.

Investment here would pay dividends for our society in the long run. We don't perpetually want an underclass of criminals do we.

moral breakdown in society

i blame the breakdown in society's moral values and kids horrid behaviour on the lack of families sitting down together for an evening meal and NOT having the TV on! Talking is what is needed.

My 3yr old Granddaughter eats beautifully at table with knife and fork. She's been doing it (eating at table) since she was born. Teach them your good habits straight away and they accept it.

Not all kids have Computers

You may know I'm passionate about education. It makes me angry when it is taken for granted that all kids have a computer and Broadband access. They don't.

Besides I know that most kids do their homework by Google, copy, and paste!
Do they learn anything? yes, how to search.

What happened to Books?

My teacher wife knows a plagurised piece of work and it goes in the bin!

So sometimes the kid with NO internet gets the best marks and has learned something.

This school in Bolton has given ALL its 800 pupils iPADs. WOW - £500 each - where has that money come from? There are schools where they are short of books and the roof still leaks - this is not just sour grapes. Lets have iPADs for all.

I bet many get "lost" or broken? Then what do they do?

Same old story the rich get richer and the dregs get trampled on. But Bolton isn't Hampshire so how are they doing it?

Scrap Child Benefit?

All this fuss over Child Benefit? Why should folk on over £50k get ANY benefits? Come to that surely only the poorest should get any benefits.  We  seem to have unlimited benefits in this country, why? Surely we shouldn't just keep paying out for unlimited children?
child Benefit
My answer? Limit child Benefit to the first 3 children. We do need children for society to develop. After all as we get older and retire who do you think works and generates the wealth to keep us in our old age?

Conversely why should people get used to living on handouts? If the Government is paying you to live then just like those who work to live - ALL INCOME SHOULD BE TAXED!

So if you're on a low income you pay less or no tax. The more you get the more you pay in TAX. Seems fair?
What makes me cross is where has the commitment to help married couples? If only one works then he/she should share their Tax allowances since its a JOINT income. One person not working allows someone else to have a job opportunity instead of everyone working putting kids in care.Better to have mum or dad looking after them?

Benefits scandal

Good news that Lone parents will have to look for work. I do sympathise with those honest hard working folk who suddenly fall on the situation "bereavement" for example but there are too many using "Kids" as a ticket to a life of Riley!

Maybe this initiative will help? I hope so.

I know of examples where single parent with 3 kids, (2 under 5), council house 3bed semi, colour flat screen TV, DVD Sky, Computers (yes kids have one too)., mobile phones, always buying kids toys, etc, go out for meals regularly (I don't). All this without working and getting benefits from OUR TAXES! Father absent but unemployed "looking" for work? Oldest is looking to  go to Uni but at the moment doesn't spend his "allowance" for attending school.

Gets decorator in, gardener, new fencing, kids go to nursery (free) what does Mum do? Now going to spend £150 on party for one of them! Unbelievable.

Is this right?

Great eh.
