Shetland - BBC TV

Shetland on BBC TV is an enjoyable low detective story. Shetland looks quite bleak and fairly treeless. What i find incredulous is how DI Perez can  always get a signal on his mobile wherever he lives! I struggle to get a decent signal near Whitehaven Cumbria, and this is an urban area of 50000 population. Hey it's only fictional tv.

Big Samsung Brother is watching - you!

I think I have said before how many of George Orwell's visions, of a dystopian view of a totalitarian society dominated by media, are coming true!

Here is another example - the Visi-screen - yes now IT is watching us! Truly Big Brother?

Society dominated by media propaganda, wars raging, west versus east, then far east, middle east, North and south all images provided by media to an insatiable public. then there's the endless "voting" for this n that, (mainly "celebrity" non-entities) but Governments are next and does it change anything? no of course not. Then there's Civil Liberties, bit by bit the Police state is tightening the screws and Big Brother is watching, now even in our homes. Government knows where you are and what you've been/are doing in so many ways. Do you use a Credit/debit card - they know where you are. Of course Crime has to be countered - but is it real? Are the Wars real? Maybe as real "American Sniper" - hard to tell?
Pestilence - the Ebola outbreak in Africa - was that real? I've watched Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - far fetched? Disease wipes out most of mankind and spread from experiments in apes? Hmmmmm?

At least they can't stop what we think - can they?

Top Gear starts second Falklands War?

Top gear could have made sensational headlines as above - maybe? Well it seems the Argies aren't happy with Jeremy Clarkson and co who were filming a Top Gear "stunt" there.

Were they aware of possible significance of the number plated Porsche? "oh dear, no" they said - "you bet they were " I SAY.

Heavens sake this is Top Gear they like to court controversy - why does JC work for the BBC? He's nearly been sacked a couple of times but they let him off.

Weather the BBC like TG because they can sell it is one thing, as a Taxpayer funded organisation I say "NO WAY". How on earth is the BBC allowed to do these things? If it was a private company fair enough - they take the consequences, but when  you and I are paying for it. In these days of austerity, the Government wants to cut Benefits to make ends meet, how about letting every body be £145 a year better off. Abolish the Licence fee, and Privatise the BBC.

MP John Whittingdale who chairs the Culture and Media committee said that "it was getting harder to sustain the license fee".

Too right when the bloated BBC languishes fat salaries on endless "executives", insane "stars", ridiculous "presenters" (Claudia Winkelman £250,000) and wastes money provoking other countries, do we really expect this on our hard earned money. If even a minute fraction of any of this was done by say your local council (taxpayer funded) or your MP (taxpayer funded) there would out cry "sack them" but this is hte BBC (Taxpayer Funded).

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?

News Corporation is still feeling the effects of the "Phone Hacking" scandal - what are the sanctions on the BBC - I think its too much part of the establishment - hence why Jimmy Saville got away with it for so long. Maybe there is change in the air?

They sold off the Post Office, if Sky can be profitable then why not the BBC,? It gets over £3 billion pounds a year to make "entertainment"!! how can this be in 2014?

Racists - Ton n Jerry? non-pc cartoons

I have always decried the attitude to "rewriting history" - typified by the attitude to using the "N" word that I am allowed to allude to so everyone knows but not actually use! It was Guy Gibson's Black Labrador's name in 1942!1 For heavens sake - what else form history shall we erase that we don't like now?

So the Tom and Jerry cartoons used Racist images/subjects whatever? Times were different 50/60 years ago. Maybe it was offensive then - people just didn't know it - we have learnt though haven't we.
(you know the above article appeared in Saturdays Daily Mail - I thought I was reading what I had written).

There are differences though, what is a word - the "N" word. Can I say "N" black?

Its not being offensive is it - the word exists - I don't like the "F" word. Don't use it personally but loads of people do and it offends me but I let it ride unless they are being offensive to me. Any word can be offensive to somebody depending on how it is used, black, white, big, small, thin, fat, boy, girl, happy , sad, gay, merry I could go on. Pointless.

Its not the words its the context.

Personally depicting violence to under 12s is bad, e.g. many films now are rated 12 or PG when they show "fantasy violence" whatever that is it seems to be OK. Killing is killing. Perhaps one day we'll have some protection for crimes against Fantasy Characters - someone needs to stand up for them.

Privatise the BBC - £1000 bounty to catch dodgers

TV on the Taxpayers? Ludicrous in the 21st Century. Why put people in prison for watching TV. When there are all the alternatives to the BBC - all Private and they can make money WHY do we have to pay the Licence fee? Its a TAX on entertainment.

They could save all the money in the courts hounding people and making criminals out of them and in this time of austerity we can't afford a £145 a year tax. I've had no pay-rise for 5 years yet MPs are to get 10% whether they want it or not.

Privatise the BBC and do away with the Licence fee. Public service TV can be paid for out of levy on all of the TV channel providers SKY can afford  bit.

using a mobile phone whilst driving

Recently 2 top police officers have suggested more severe penalties for driving and using a mobile phone. Also confiscating them after all accidents to check for use. think that using a mobile phone whilst driving should be treated as severely as Drink Driving.
People need to be educated just like we were about drinking. it is difficult though for example, i have just watched an episodes of the Mentalist and 2 people need were blatantly using a mobile phone whilst driving. What sort of an example is this? do they have different laws in USA? Should we censor programs that show people breaking our laws? but then programs show all sort of crime.

BBC free licence?

More and more people are realising that a) you can watch TV without a TV and b) then you don't need a TV licence.
Too right. its about time it was free for all. Why should the BBC exist paid for out of a house tax? Sky, ITV are commercial. The BBC should be privatised. Why should people in the 21st Century have Entertainment on Benefits? Entertainment is NOT a social service or necessity HMG. £32 billion pounds could be used to help the NHS?
Yes - provide some public service broadcasting but that can be out of general taxations.

I predicted the Internet!

Now that should have been me. Back in the '80s when I worked for Visionhire I predicted that folk would just want cable TV they would have access to TV/films and all sorts of information via their telephone wires!

I should be as rich as Suranga Chandratillake!

moral breakdown in society

i blame the breakdown in society's moral values and kids horrid behaviour on the lack of families sitting down together for an evening meal and NOT having the TV on! Talking is what is needed.

My 3yr old Granddaughter eats beautifully at table with knife and fork. She's been doing it (eating at table) since she was born. Teach them your good habits straight away and they accept it.
